• “Proper knowledge maps or mirrors the actualities of the real world!”- K Gergen
models (mapping, mental categories, etc.) make the human mind “go-round” So, a “Model” of human consciousness and the real world without a proper “Map” of social consciousness and spirituality creates an unhealthy and often dysfunctional model! When one digs into the social sciences, the models or maps that exist for spirituality, religion, and social consciousness have some serious deficiencies which could easily dis-orient many people. At the moment there is not a proper Map of social consciousness nor a proper categorization – map of “types of spirituality.” – nor for the record a proper map-definition of religion.
many present-ay scholars say materialist ideology-methodology falls short in a proper assessment of the “actualities” or the world – such as Rupert Sheldrake, Brain Josephson, Baruss, Julia Mossbridge, Iain McGilChrist, Filipino ethics scholar Jeremiah Reyes, as well as scholar and theologian David Hay (extreme individualism), and Virgilio Enriquez. Then there are Christian psychologists who are critical of materialist ideology such as Dr. Stephen Farra and Dr Paul Wong.
Jeremiah Lasquety-Reyes, “Hi Charles, I completely agree with you that this extreme adherence to materialism is too restrictive and limiting, and frankly fails to capture so many richer aspects of human experience and psychology. It leaves the field of psychology all the poorer. I am myself looking for a framework that helps me confront it. Partly, I think an alternative metaphysics is needed, one that respects the reality and meaning of things like love, relationships, and the profound reality of other people as people and not just as a compound of atoms, chemicals, and neurons firing. Glad that we’re on the same page!” [I should briefly mention that this Jeremiah Reyes quote got 418 views on one site]
