Retired from a career of four decades in higher education, almost half of it in academic administration, I continue to be active in the profession. My research interests concern twentieth-century American and southern literature, film, and photography–with an emphasis on the life and work of Robert Penn Warren.

    Projects

    My latest book project is a literary and visual study of four examples within the photobook genre during the 1930s and 1940s illustrated with Farm Security Agency photographs. It has been accepted for publication by the University of Tennessee Press in 2024 as These Vivid American Documents: Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange, and FSA Photobooks <https://utpress.org/title/these-vivid-american-documents/>.
