The aim of the Russian Music Theory Interest Group (SMT-Rus) is to discuss, promote, and engage with Russian theoretical traditions, which offer new approaches to musical meaning, harmony, voice leading, and form, with a special emphasis on topics little studied by Western scholars, including functional modality and tonal mutability. This interest group was inaugurated at the 2013 meeting of the Society for Music Theory in Charlotte, NC.

      Dear SMT-Rus members,

I am inviting you to participate in the election of a new chair, who will lead the group in 2023-25. Please click the link below and respond ONCE by Monday, December 5, 2022. The quorum for this will be 10 voters, and this is half of the last two years’ attendance average.

[LINK REMOVED AS ELECTION PERIOD HAS PASSED]

Candidate bios were posted earlier, but I am also attaching them as a Word document here.

The quorum for this will be 10 voters, and this is half of the last two years’ attendance average at the annual meeting of the group. (In 2022, we had 15 attendees, and in 2021, we had 49 at the joint meeting with the pedagogy group, so we count helf of this (24.5, rounded to 25) for the Russian Theory group. The average of 15 and 25 is 20, and 20/2 is 10.) If we don’t have the quorum by December 5, I will extend the due date by a week.

Thank you all for your participation in this important action!

      -Ellen
