A quantitative case study of the Learn-Watch-Ask (LWA) Training Model applied to NATO Quality Assurance in Education and Individual Training Course (S7-137)

Abstract

Training methodologies in military and educational settings must evolve to meet the demands of modern learning environments. This study examines the impact of the Learn-Watch-Ask (LWA) training model on knowledge acquisition in the NATO Quality Assurance in Education and Individual Training Course (S7-137). By analyzing data from students who participated in multiple iterations of this residential course at NATO School Oberammergau from January 2021 to January 2024, we investigate whether the LWA model results in a significant increase in learning outcomes. Our statistical analysis, including paired t-tests, ANOVA, regression analysis, and effect size calculation (Cohen’s d), demonstrates a statistically significant 18.9% improvement in knowledge absorption among students educated under the LWA training model. The findings suggest that the LWA model increases training effectiveness and could serve as a scalable model for other NATO training programs and potentially civilian education institutions.
