I am an Associate Professor of German and Comparative Literature and teach in the University of Iowa’s Division of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and for the MFA Program in Literary Translation.  My courses focus on literature, poetics, theory, and translation, but I also regularly teach a course on the history of writing titled “The Invention of Writing: Cuneiform to Computers.” My research focuses on literary and theoretical texts from Romanticism on, and specifically on the ways in which self-reflexive reading minds can re-think their relation to texts. In addition to my scholarly work, I also direct, edit, and produce documentary films.

PhD in German Literature, Cornell University

Erstes Staatsexamen in Germanistik und Amerikanistik, Universität Tübingen

I am still setting this site up. In the meantime, many of my publications can be found on researchgate.net
