About
I am Associate Professor of German and Comparative Literature in the University of Iowa’s Division of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. I also teach in the MFA Program in Literary Translation. My courses focus on literature, poetics, theory, and translation. I also regularly teach a popular course on the history of writing titled “The Invention of Writing: Cuneiform to Computers.” My research focuses on literary and theoretical (mostly German, sometimes French or Russian) texts from Romanticism on, and specifically on the key role that gender plays in literary processes. In addition to my scholarly work, I also direct, edit, and produce documentary films. Education
