Phil is an Adjunct English Professor at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, CA. In his research, Professor Thompson focuses on the uncanny in literature. More recently, his interests have expanded to include Chicanx and Latinx Literary and Cultural Studies.

He teaches ENGL 110 (Critical Reading and Writing I) and ENGL 111 (Critical Reading and Writing II), as well as ENGL 361 (Contemporary Chicano Literature), which covers poetry, theater, the novel, the short story, and the essay through an historical framework establishing the different periods of Chicano creativity from its origins in the pre-1960s to contemporary times.
