This article discusses a computer-based approach to finding patterns in unpitched neume notation, with particular reference to Old Hispanic chant which was used in the Iberian peninsula until it was suppressed and replaced by the Roman rite around 1080. This gives musicologists a way to query a database of these chants to identify recurring patterns which are likely to represent musically significant structures, while allowing for musical and scribal variation.
