The celebration of the “Beethoven Year” in Madrid in 1927 resulted in a whole series of celebrations of all kinds that extended throughout that emblematic year to honour the German composer. This resulted in the public performance of numerous concerts by Madrid’s leading orchestral and choral groups, including the Orquesta Filarmónica de Madrid, founded in 1915 by Bartolomé Pérez Casas. This article studies the limited participation of this conductor and his orchestra in the commemorative events of the aforementioned “Beethoven Year”, reaching its climax in early November 1927 with the opening concert of the new season, consisting exclusively of works by the Bonn composer, although the activity of the Orquesta Filarmónica was far from the dedication of the Orquesta Sinfónica, which that year programmed two Beethovenian cycles.
