Efforts had been made to portrait Francisco Pérez Bayer in his visit to Portugal in 1782, but with a «shadowing memory» result as we seen today at Évora Museum reserves and originally from D. Frei Manuel do Cenáculo’s pinacotheca. Portraits of edifying figures of society had been included in his collection reinforcing the position of this genre of painting. Integrated in a vast educational project of enlightened nature, presented as library museum, portraits were celebrative and stimulating monuments of the extraordinaire, civilized and moral man in his multifaceted intelligences. Pérez Bayer figure was entirely suitable to Cenáculo´s gallery, therefore his portrait was commissioned and incorporated there but was considered lost due to a long term misidentification. Recently rediscovered , is the first known work of the portuguese painter Manuel José Pinheiro to evaluate.
