About

Anindita Basu Sempere studies change of place and poetics in twentieth-century American literature. She completed her PhD at the Université de Neuchâtel in December 2022. Her dissertation, titled “Mysterious Geography: Elizabeth Bishop and the Mediations of Place,” comprises a case study of Elizabeth Bishop’s move to Brazil and an analysis of how she mediated this change through writing. Anindita combines a digital humanities approach with genetic criticism, using deep maps to follow Bishop’s manuscript development spatio-temporally and then studying the texts themselves.

Prior to joining the Institute of English Studies at UniNE, Anindita co-founded The Writing Faculty, an online tutoring company focused exclusively on teaching writing, where she was also the Executive Director. She was the Director of Education of a boutique tutoring company in the United States, and a founding faculty member of a charter school in Cambridge, MA.
