The Film and Multimedia Interest Group strives to create a scholarly space to stimulate and disseminate research on music (broadly understood to include sound) within film, games, and multimedia, employing well-established music analytical methodologies, as well as newly developed analytical frameworks. By extension, this group will seek to facilitate dialogue and collaboration with other interest groups within the Society for Music Theory and researchers working in cognition, musicology, and allied fields.

The SMT Film and Multimedia Interest Group invites proposals for “work-in-progress” talks to be presented at our interest group meeting during the SMT annual meeting in Denver, CO, on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 7:30 PM. For these work-in-progress talks, we are seeking presentations on ongoing projects about music in film and multimedia. If you are looking for feedback on an idea that you have been working on, this is the opportunity for you.

Each work-in-progress talk will be 10 minutes in length, and after all presentations are complete, we will devote about 30 minutes to workshopping the given talks, gathering feedback from our members, and promoting dialogue between speaker and audience. This is meant to be a safe, open, and inclusive space to provide and receive constructive feedback on a work in progress.

Abstracts of no more than 250 words should be submitted by September 29, 2023. Some portion of the abstract should indicate why the author thinks workshopping this talk and receiving feedback from this audience in particular will be beneficial to them. Proposers will be notified in the first week of October. Only one submission is allowed per person.

Please submit anonymous proposals as PDF files to william.r.ayers@gmail.com.

The body of the email should include:
      Presentation title
      Presenter name
      Institutional affiliation (if applicable)
      Email address

If you have any questions regarding your submission, please feel free to contact William Ayers (william.r.ayers@gmail.com).
