Researchers, publishers, librarians, infrastructure providers — indeed, anyone who is interested — can discuss any aspect of OA books here. This group was begun by members of OAPEN, OPERAS, ScholarLed and SPARC Europe.

To join the Open Access Books Network group, simply set up a profile at Humanities Commons. It takes a couple of minutes, and you can find easy-to-follow instructions here. Then search for the Open Access Books Network under Groups (on the left-hand side of your screen) and click on the Join Group button.

You are now officially a member of the OABN community!

      Get started!

To get to know the group’s members, we have created a thread called ‘Meet the Members’ (under the Discussion tab). We encourage you to start here and tell us why Open Access books matter to you. You might also find it helpful to read our official Welcome post, which explains how to use the OABN space.

Email options: we strongly recommend checking and amending your email settings. For privacy purposes, the default is ‘No Email’ but we recommend tailoring that (you can select a weekly summary, daily digest, new topics update or all activity, as you prefer). This way you can be alerted about new discussions, new readings and new events without having to check the site. You can also participate in discussion threads via your email, if you wish.

      A note on languages
Although the administration of the site is conducted in English, you’re welcome to begin a discussion thread in another language if you wish. Likewise, if you’d like to propose an event in a language other than English, please get in touch — we’d love to hear from you.

      Contact us

If you have an event or a blog post you’d like to propose, or you want to get in touch for any other OA-books-related reason, email info@oabooksnetwork.org. You can also follow us and contact us on Twitter @oabooksnetwork.

Finally, if you’d like to be added to the Open Access Book Community on Slack (https://oabooks.slack.com), which is another forum for discussion about Open Access books, email info@oabooksnetwork.org.

You’re all set: explore and contribute! Great to have you on board!

      Hi all,

Just a quick note to flag that we’ve switched off the Events calendar function on the site. People weren’t engaging with it, so instead of spending time updating it we’ll be focused on coordinating talks and workshops, fostering discussion, and making more people aware of this network. Anyone interested in a calendar of OA events might like to check out the Open Research Calendar: https://openresearchcalendar.github.io (or @OpenResearchCal on Twitter).

Soon we’ll be announcing some new events and asking for your feedback on what you’d like to see from the OABN in the coming months, so watch this space…

      All best,

      Lucy
