Call for Papers: Artistic Realities of Jewish Art / Migrations in Jewish Music

      We are privileged to invite all scholars, archivists and practitioners to participate in the International Scholarly Session “Artistic Realities of Jewish Art”at the State Institute for Art Studies of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation (5, Kozitsky Lane, Moscow), May 2021 (Thu-Fri), 2021

      The Session will be held in on-site and online formats. Papers ‒15 minutes.

      We offer the following directions for discussing the topics you are interested in:

      •  Jewish art in past and future,
      •  the history of the concept of ‘Jewish art’ and what meanings it is filled with in different art forms — such as music, plastic arts, theater, cinema, etc.
      •  the meaning and consequences of the second commandment of Judaism for Jewish art,
      •  what exactly defines Jewish art — themes, formal features, or something else?
      • what place belongs to artist in the concept of ‘Jewish art’?
      •  the limitations or limitlessness of Jewish art,
      •  the functions of Jewish art in the socio-cultural space,- ‘traditional’ and ‘national’ in Jewish art,
      •  еtс.

      The Session will include a section on ‘Migrations and Transformations in Jewish Music’ Please inform us about your participation before March 21, 2021 by sending a request to a-music@sias.ru and giulashamilli@gmail.com

      •  name and surname,
      •  academic degree or title (if available),
      •  place of work and position / place of study and faculty / the status of independent researcher,
      •  email address (required), phone number (optional),
      •  title of the paper,- abstract of the paper (at least 200 words),
      •  participation form (on-site or online).

      The International Scholarly Session will be held within the framework of the ‘Week of Jewish Art at the State Institute for Art Studies’ (May 17‒21) and the exhibition ‘East of Reuben Mazel’, which became the winner of the Second Competition of museum and exhibition grants of the Russian Jewish Congress.

      The deadline for submission of abstracts for the section ‘Migrations and Transformations in Jewish Music’ at the Conference “Artistic Realities of Jewish Art” of the State Institute for Art Studies of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation is postponed to April 1, 2021. We are looking forward to submissions!
