Black Lives Matter Edit-a-thon: Wikipedia as a Crowdsourced Historical Resource

Event Description

On November 4th from 4-6:45pm PST, DEFCon's Dr. Jamila Moore Pewu will be hosting a Black Lives Matter themed Wikipedia edit-a-thon facilitated by the Digital Scholarship Center team at San Francisco State University.

This is a great opportunity for faculty, staff or students to gain new digital literacy skills in a collaborative environment, and to contribute to the quality of publicly available information about BLM and the African Diaspora.  This event will be held via Zoom and for planning purposes, we ask that you pre-register at the following link: We can accommodate up to 30 participants, so please register early!

Do I need to have Wikipedia experience to attend? Not at all, the facilitators will provide hands-on training through Zoom as well as supplemental written instructions, but we do ask that you take a couple of minutes to create a Wikipedia account before the event if you do not already have one.

If you receive a message indicating that your IP address is blocked, please consult Wikipedia’s documentation for potential solutions, and feel free to contact for asistance. Please feel free to email Dr. Moore Pewu directly if you have questions:
