“William Carlos Williams’ Animal Spirits”
Commissioned for a special 2016 issue of the William Carlos Williams Review, and to be republished in The New Williams, Ed. Neri Sandoval et al., by Fairleigh Dickinson University Press, 2017.
My essay surveys William Carlos Williams’ poetic career via specific poems about animals, from Al Que Quiere! and “Poem (As the cat)” to the dogs of Paterson and the late poem in his triadic style, “To a Dog Injured in the Street.”
