    Abstract:
This draft conference paper explores how "critical literacy" might be articulated as a threshold concept for first year writing. Critical literacy is presented as a term that helps explain the disciplinary aims of writing studies to community college students and faculty and administrators.
    Notes:
The paper is presented as a background narrative to help frame a shorter presentation and discussion that will take place Friday, January 8 at 5:15 p.m. as part of session 419. Threshold Concepts in First-Year Composition (FYC) at the Community College.
