- Abstract:
- This report explores factors influencing the choice of secondary school for parents of children with Down syndrome when their child has had a successful mainstream primary school experience. It has been recognised that even when a child with Down syndrome has had a successful mainstream primary school experience that some parents chose to send their child to a segregated setting rather than a mainstream school for their secondary education. Therefore, this research project explores what factors influence parents when choosing a secondary school as well as what supports are required in mainstream secondary school settings for young people with Down syndrome. The report was written in partnership with Down Syndrome Victoria and funded by the Melbourne Disability Institute.
