    Abstract:
In this session, we will define visual literacy for the twenty-first century as well as metaliteracy and its scope. We will then discuss how the Framework for Visual Literacy for Higher Education and the etaliteracy Framework inform and expand each other, and why both are needed for learners to be able to effectively navigate the information environment. We will discuss how specific learning objectives and learner dispositions align, paying particular attention to centering social justice. We will provide examples of visual misinformation that illustrate the need for these literacy dispositions. Finally, we will explore example instructional activities that incorporate both frameworks to develop and assess metaliteracy and visual literacy learning. Participants will be provided with takeaways that they can use to transform their professional and personal practices.
