- Abstract:
- Original RDA was somewhat lacking in guidance for resources that represent more than a single expression, leaving much unstated or assumed, relying on catalogers' judgment, or using terms such as "compilation" without actually defining them or explaining their significance for cataloging. The response to this gap in coverage is the aggregate model, which addresses these types of resources in a systematic way. However, the language of the model can seem rather impenetrable. This presentation will attempt to demystify the aggregate model for practical cataloging after the forthcoming implementation of official RDA in 2023, covering: the aggregate model in plain language; collection, augmentation, and parallel aggregates as commonly encountered in music materials; current RDA, LC-PCC PS, and MLA guidance for aggregates; changes in practice from original RDA; practical cataloging examples of each type of aggregate and the relevant instructions.
