    Abstract:
This abstract discusses the differences between learning English as a foreign language (EFL) and learning English as a second language (ESL). The EFL is when English is learned in a non-English speaking nation where it is not the primary communication medium, often for academic or professional reasons. In contrast, ESL is when English is learned in a nation where it is the dominant language of conversation, often by immigrants and refugees who need to integrate into their new societies. The main difference between EFL and ESL is the setting in which the language is taught. EFL students often study in a school environment or independently and may require more opportunities to practice speaking and hearing English outside the classroom. On the other hand, ESL students are constantly exposed to English and must communicate in English to function in their everyday lives. Regardless of the setting, both EFL and ESL are crucial for improving English proficiency and accessing better opportunities in communication, education, and the workplace.
