- Abstract:
- Religious relativism is a contentious issue within philosophy and theology. This post addresses this issue to show us how within Indic religions, especially within Hinduism, the question of religious relativism does not arise because Hinduism as a philosophical discourse gestures towards non-dual unqualified monism in all its various branches. Albeit to the lay mind these branches of Hinduism appear to be too diverse to be commented upon as a homogenous whole. This blog post is an answer to a Catholic cloistered theologian who merited a fuller answer as regards to the problem of relativism that Christian and other Abrahamic theologians find while approaching Hindu understandings of the cosmos and the Hindu view of life.
- Notes:
- A cloistered Benedictine abbot emailed me about his problems understanding how it is possible, or rather, logically impossible, for one to know that all religious discourses can be equally valid. So this blog post published by Indian Catholic Matters deals with the skepticism of many non-Indic thinkers regarding the foundational understanding of relativism.
