    Abstract:
    Curatorial note from Digital Pedagogy in the Humanities: It’s ambitious to assign House of Leaves in an introductory literature class. Jeremy Douglass and Steven Pokornowski create a two-part interface assignment. The prompt procedurally guides students through making a [remix](/keyword/remix) of one page—and only one page—in House of Leaves. To make their collages, students can work with digital image software or with the other “digits,” their fingers, using art and craft supplies. Handmade remixes are photographed; all remixes are tagged and uploaded to the class’s Tumblr site, which itself remixes the individual pages into a fragmentary collective reading of the novel. Their heterogeneity, and the accumulation of student work over time, refracts the source text’s unfinalizability.
