- Abstract:
- Proto-Semitic script, invented in the early 2nd millennium BC, is probably the oldest alphabetic system, from which all the later alphabets descended. This script is believed to be an intermediate stage between the Egyptian hieroglyphs and Phoenician alphabetic writing.
