- Abstract:
- This chapter approaches distributed agency from the perspective of philosophy of action, the theory of collective intentionality and normative social philosophy. With respect to small-scale cooperative joint action in particular, it focuses on the core issues of analyzing the intentionality and the normativity of such actions. It first argues for a non-reductive relational account of so-called joint intentions, i.e. the intentions that guide the intentional performance of a joint action. Building on this, the chapter elaborates the specific normative relationship between cooperating agents as grounded in their mutual social commitments and as consisting in mutual social obligations.
