    Abstract:
The essay is a treatment of ontological, temporal and structural problems that concern tower building in the instance of two novels: William Golding's The Spire and Thomas Bernhard's Correction. In the guidance of the notion of ''instauration'' borrowed from Étienne Souriau, and in further dialogue with a diverse array of theoretical interlocutors, the two works are discussed on the basis of the central obsessions of building that the main protagonists share, employing an expansive framework which establishes a.continuum between the ontological status and psychological trials of building.
