- Abstract:
- The myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, as told in Ovid's Metamorphoses, serves as a template for George Nolfi's story about the tensions surrounding fulfillment in private versus public life. A romance-thriller with science fiction overtones, the film is a loose adaptation of Philip K. Dick's short story, The Adjustment Team. In Nolfi's version, supernatural agents work to adjust the experiences of individual lives in accordance with the wishes of the divine 'Chairman', who writes the plans that determine human lives. Ovid's version, together with 20th century film adaptations of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth, inform this story of love, loss, and dedication to goals against the interrogation of one's own values and desires.
